You
are probably the driving force of your campaign, and no doubt, you can
probably shoulder the campaign singlehandedly. But
there are many important advantages to building a team that deserve
consideration.
A team:
Provides
Varied Skill and Input
Shoulders Responsibility
Deepens
the commitment of all involved
Increases
impact and influence

"A
successful team is built upon a shared vision and mutual ownership."
Consider
how to bring together those who will contribute time and / or influence.
Begin
with a small group of core members who will be mutual partners in your
effort. Together, you should:
•
Become well informed and conversant with the various aspects of
school food service and nutrition education.
•
Glean a clear and accurate understanding of where your school fits
in: speak with your children, their teachers and food service, and,
•
Set your goals.
As
your campaign galvanizes, involve influencial community members. These
individuals may simply lend their name or attend specific presentations.
Still, their involvement is critical. For example, the nutritional aspects
of your PTA presentation will have far greater influence if given by
a nutritionist or a community doctor. Attending a meeting with a school
official may be more productive if preceded by a letter of recommendation,
or attended by both parent and a civic leader or educator.
Remember
that there are many parents, teachers and food service personnel, who
do agree with your messages. Your job is to find, motivate, empower
and support their involvement. Every person involved should know clearly
what is expected of them, and be engaged in a manner that best suits
their demeanor, availability and ability. The more an individual has
committed and contributed, the more they will carry forward your message
and convince others of its importance.
