1.
Start a school garden
2.
Visit
a farm,
hopefully one the school purchases produce from, and let the farmer
give the kids a tour. Make sure they all have a chance to pick seasonal
produce and either bring it home or to school.
3.
Set up a taste testing event:
Invite a parent(s) or guest speaker to come and bring different foods
made solely from plant foods. For variety, consider featuring different
ethnic foods: Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Indian, etc. You might also
like to have the student's sing songs or listen to stories from these
different geographic regions. Make it a party. And have a good time!
4.
Let the children cook: Work with food service to schedule a
'cooking' class in your school cafeteria. Children do not have to
cook, they can prepare something simple like a fruit snacks, veggies
and dips, or breads (that an adult can bake for them).
